How is Machine Learning enhancing the Future of Education?
Education is to good knowledge and interest, Machine Learning is to good ROI!
How true can this statement get? Since it is a statement, my interpretation of it is that learning can do magic, in all aspects of life. Be it sports, entertainment or cutting it short, education and technology for that matter.
Technology is ruling the world, not all for good reasons, but milestone like Mission mars got accomplishment because of it. Cheers to the Nation! (India became the first country to successfully place a spacecraft into Mars orbit on its maiden attempt).
Talking about machine learning, it is a concept which allows the machine to learn from examples and experience. The machines don’t write the codes and instead of that data is fed in the generic algorithm. The algorithm that machine builds is the logic based on the given data.
In simple terms, it can be defined as a field of computer science which uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to “learn”. This helps to progressively improve performance on a specific task with data. So, without being explicitly programmed, this can be done. For example – in education, we see machine learning in learning analytics and artificial intelligence working successfully.
Machine learning in education is a form of personalized learning that could be used to give each student an individualized educational experience. Here, the students are guided for their own learning, can follow the pace they want and make their own decisions about what to learn.
Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow!

Applying Machine Learning in Education Sector
These are the essential machine learning applications in education field:
1. Adaptive Learning
Adaptive learning, with that name it is self-explanatory. It analyzes a student’s performance in real-time and modifies teaching methods and the curriculum based on that data. It helps to have a personalized engagement and tries to adapt to the individual for a better education.
The software helps in suggesting learning paths that the student should take. The students get suggestions from materials and other learning methodologies from the software.

2. Increasing Efficiency
Machine learning has the capability of better content and curriculum organization and management. It helps to bifurcate the work accordingly and understand the potential of everyone. This helps to analyze what work is best suited for the teacher and what works for the student.
It makes the work of teachers and students easier and that makes them happy and comfortable with education. This also increases the involvement and their love towards participation and learning. Thus, increasing the efficiency of education.
It also has the potential to make educators more efficient by completing tasks such as classroom management, scheduling, etc. Thus, the educators are free to focus on tasks that cannot be achieved by AI, and that require a human touch.

3. Learning Analytics
Many times it happens that the teacher also gets stuck while teaching. Because of this, the insights and gist aren’t properly understood by the students. With learning analytics, the teacher can gain insight into data and can perform deep dives into data. She/he can shift through millions of pieces of content, interpret it and then can make connections and conclusions. This can positively impact the teaching and learning process.
Apart from this, the learning analytics suggests paths the student should take. Students can gain benefits by receiving suggestions concerning materials and other learning methodologies from this software.
4. Predictive Analytics
Predictive analytics in education is all about knowing the mindset and needs of the students. It helps to make conclusions about the things that might happen in the future. With the class tests and half-yearly results, it could be understood which students are going to perform well in the exam and which students will have a tough time.
This helps the faculty and the parents to get alert and take appropriate measures. Through this, a student can be helped in a better way and can work on his weak subjects.

5. Personalized Learning
This one is the best usage that machine learning provides. It is customizable and individual requirements are being taken care of through this. Through this educational model, the students can guide their own learning. They can have their own pace and can make decisions about what to learn and how to learn. They can choose the subjects they are interested in, the teacher they want to learn from and what curriculum, standards and pattern they want to follow.
6. Evaluating Assessments
Technology during my school time was restricted to OMR answer sheets. It was created by using OMR Sheet Design Software. It had a black color index point which is at the corner of the sheet. Similarly, machine learning in the form of artificial intelligence is used to grade student assignments and exams more accurately than a human can. Though some input from humans is required. But, the best results will have higher validity and reliability when a machine does the work as there are higher reliability and low chances of error.
With the rising importance and awareness about education in the rural as well as urban areas, changes are being seen. It is rightly said that ‘If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family (nation)’.
It will take a while for the old school educators to use machine learning. But, in no time everyone will realize that machine learning will revolutionize the education field and the entire nation. And, to learn machine learning online, there is no better platform than DataFlair!
