Polity and Governance

1. Agra Metro Project Inaugration

The Agra Metro Project construction began on 7 December 2020 as PM Modi inaugurated the site. It is part of the Smart city facilities and the phase for it has begun. CM Yogi Adityanath was present in the video when this took place. 

2. 9 States are following the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ system 

The Finance Ministry of India shared how 9 Indian states are successfully following the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ policy. It is backed up by the Central Government with an aim to promote Fair Price Shops in the country.

3. New Parliament Building now in Process

PM Narendra Modi on 10 December laid the foundation stone for the construction of the building. It will be inside the Parliament Complex, Delhi. Tata projects Ltd is responsible for its construction and this is part of boosting Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

International Relations

1. India and Uzbekistan’s First Virtual Summit

PM Modi and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were part of a virtual summit to talk about the bilateral cooperation between both the countries. This was the first virtual summit between the countries held on 11 December 2020. 

2. India-Myanmar 5th Bilateral Meeting 

On 10 December 2020, India and Myanmar took part in their 5th Bilateral meeting. The topic of the meeting was Drug Control Cooperation and the meeting was a virtual one. The Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control of Myanmar and the Narcotics Control Bureau of India were also present.

3. Israel – Morocco peace Deal

Morocco took the initiative to normalize the relation between them and Israel with the help of the US. It has become the fourth Arab nation to do so as Donald Trump took over Twitter to share this news. 

4. Singapore will host the World Economic Forum 2021

This year Singapore will be responsible for organizing the World Economic Forum. Earlier, Davos in Switzerland was in charge but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the venue for the forum was changed to Singapore.

1. Indian Ocean Island Games 2023 in Madagascar

The Indian Ocean Games were scheduled in the Maldives for the year 2019. But the Covid situation led to a push in the date to 2023 and the venue changed from the Maldives to Madagascar. 

Health and Sanitisation

1. National Health Mission will become Active in January 2021

India is set to launch the National Health Mission next year and issue unique health IDs to every individual. These IDs will have previous medical records including health condition, treatment, and reports. 

2. Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine seeks Canada’s Approval

All individuals above 16 years of age can use Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in Canada. The vaccination process in the state may start by next week as the UK is already using the vaccine developed by them. 

Science and Technology

1. China’s Nuclear-powered Artificial Sun now Active

HL-2M Tokamak reactor, the artificial sun of China activated on December 4, 2020. The fusion of the reactor was off for testing purposes. The expectation is to fuel the energy demands of the country for sustainability.

1. The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2020

The Literary Prize for 2020 was won by Raj Kamal Jha for his novel ‘The City and The Sea’. Peter Bundalo, a book published shared the news on December 9, 2020. The book revolves around the Nirbhaya Rape case 2012 and the event was held virtually in Denmark.

2. Person of the Year 2020

Time Magazine for the Person of the Year 2020 finalized US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. These two also managed to be on the list of Top 10 most-tweeted-about people. 

3. Fortune Business Person of The Year 2020

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla became the Business person of the year again for the second time in a row. Adobe CEO, Shantanu Narayan was the 8th one on the list with Ajay Banga, MasterCard CEO in the 12th position.

4. ‘Invest India’ wins Investment Promotion Award 2020

The UN Promotion Award 2020 was backed by Invest India UNCTAD this year. The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry updated about this achievement on their portal. The award is to appreciate the investment promotion agencies of all countries. 

5. Orchha & Gwalior of MP are now a part of UNESCO’s Heritage Cities

Both the cities in Madhya Pradesh famous for historic monuments are now under the world heritage cities of UNESCO. Now the organization will take of beautification of both the cities with the help of State Tourism. 

6. Anil Soni becomes CEO of the WHO Foundation

Anil Soni, who is of Indian origin has become the CEO of the WHO Foundation. He will officially join the office from 1 January 2021. He will be serving at the Geneva Headquarters in Switzerland.

1. Lakshadweep is now 100% organic

Lakshadweep is the first UT that has managed to become 100% organic. This is by opting for 100% organic farming and not using any artificial fertilizers and pesticides. Sikkim was the first state to achieve this title in 2016.
