1. Vehicle Scrapping Policy

The Finance Minister of India made the official launch of the Vehicle Scrapping Policy on 1 February 2021.

The policy makes it compulsory for people to do the fitness tests of their private vehicles in automated centers every 20 years.

The policy will start in the country from April 2021. 

2. Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana

The healthcare improvement was one of the highlights of the budget.

PM Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana is one such initiative to improve health centers at the secondary and primary levels.

The yojana will function for 6 years with a budget of Rs. 64,180 crores. 

3. Chauri Chaura Centenary celebrations 

PM took over the video conference to inaugurate the Chauri Chaura centenary on 4 February 2021.

The Chauri Chaura is an important event of the national freedom movement that took place in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

4. The KAPILA campaign 

The government of India took an initiative to raise awareness around intellectual property rights with the launch of the KAPILA campaign.

The decision dates back to October 2020 but the Union Education Minister shared this decision publicly on 4 February 2021.

1. The Switch Delhi campaign

The aam aadmi leader, Arvind Kejriwal made an official launch of the Switch Delhi campaign to promote the use of electric vehicles.

The launch took place on 4 February 2021 where he requested people to use electric vehicles as much as possible to control air pollution in the city. 

2. World’s first ‘carbon-neutral’ oil consignment 

The Reliance industry received the world’s first consignment of carbon-neutral oil from the United States.

The company got 2 million barrels of oil from  Oxy Low Carbon Ventures.

Mukesh Ambani’s promise to make Reliance India Limited a zero-carbon company by 2035 is the reason behind this decision. 

Economy and Infrastructure 

1. Income Tax Remains the same and Senior Citizens relieved from ITR

The Union Budget came out on 1 February 2021 with the Finance Minister making economic announcements.

The income tax return rates remain the same for the financial year 2021. And relief for senior citizens above 75 years as they get an exemption from filing IT returns.

National Faceless Income Tax Tribunal was another important announcement. 

2. Jeff Bezos to step down as Amazon CEO 

The former richest person on earth and the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos will step down from the position.

He will now serve as the  Executive Chair of the Board of Directors of Amazon.

The CEO of Amazon web services, Andy Jessy will now become the CEO of Amazon. 

3. The first human milk bank in India

Kerala is set to open the doors to its first human milk bank as announced on 5 February 2021.

Kerala’s Health Minister KK Shailaja will launch the development process soon.

The idea is to ensure the accessibility to breast milk for newborn babies without mothers. 

International Relations

1. Myanmar Military Coup

The Myanmar military took over the nation with their counselor Aung San Suu Kyi being detained.

On 1 February 2021, the state declared an emergency and announced a new election after the end of the year 2021. 

Science and Technology

1. The 13th edition of the Aero India Show 

The Defense Research and Development Organization hosts the biggest air show in Asia every year called Aero India show.

This year the event took place in Bangalore on 3 February 2021. 

The show focuses on the latest defense technologies and systems.

2. Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Gobardhan scheme

A web portal to manage the Gobardhan scheme was launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti on 3 February 2021.

The scheme helps villagers to manage their cattle and the biowaste.

The idea is to use the biowaste efficiently to make compressed biogas which will likely increase farmer’s income. 

International Relations

1. The Nuclear Treaty between the US and Russia 

The United States of America extended the nuclear arms control treaty for the next five years with Russia.

The extension was implemented just a day before the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

The decision is an effort to reduce the rising tension in Moscow. 

Awards and Prizes

1. Hindi Word of the Year 2020

The oxford language announced Aatmnirbhar as the Hindi word of the year 2020 which means self-reliance.

The word came into the limelight after PM Modi declared to make India Aatmanirbhar in the tough times of pandemic.
