1. Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana

The center approved the Aaatma Nirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana 2020. The scheme will work on providing incentive-based jobs in the formal sector of India. This will be by working on employee provident fund subsidies. 

2. India to become toll-booth free soon

The GPS-based technology is soon to roll out in India with the center’s approval to safeguard vehicle movement in the country. Nitin Gadkari, transport minister of India shared this update about India becoming tollbooth free. 

International Relations

1. Swadhinata Sarak opening on 26 March 2021

The road connecting India to Bangladesh is set to open for travel from March 2021. The Foreign miNister of Bangladesh, Dr. A K Abdul Momen shared this news. The road is in the latter’s Mujibnagar district where both the countries share a border. 

2. UK PM Boris Johnson to visit India on Republic Day 2021 

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has accepted India’s proposal to attend the republic event of 2021. He will be the chief guest of the event as Dominic Raab, UK Foreign Secretary confirmed the information. PM Modi will also attend the UK-hosted G7 summit next year.

Sports and Games

1. FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 in Odisha

Rourkela city of Odisha will be hosting the Hockey World Cup in the year 2023. It will be the second venue for the event as Tusharkanti Behera, the sports minister of Odisha decided. The decision was based on the existing infrastructure of the city.

2. Asian Games 2030 in Qatar and 2034 edition in Saudi Arabia 

The Olympic Council of Asia decided the venues for the Asian Games 2030 and 2034 on  December 16, 2020. The countries in charge of the event will be Qatar ( Doha ) and Saudi Arabia ( Riyadh ) respectively.

1. Vision 2035: Public Health Surveillance in India

NITI Aayog on 14 Dec 2020 released the white to improve and make the Indian healthcare system stronger. The title of the paper was Vision 2035: Public Health Surveillance in India. The initiative is a part of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. 

Economy and Banking

1. The Positive Pay System will become active from January 1

A New Cheque Payment Rule called Positive Pay System will be implemented in the country from 1 January 2021. This new rule will apply to all cheque transactions with the amount above Rs 50,000/-. This initiative is by the Reserve Bank of India announced in August 2020. 

2. India on 131st position in Human Development Index 2020

The Human Development Index 2020 ranked India at 131st position. This is a United Nations Development Programme that ranks countries on parameters like education, health, and standard of living. The top five countries were Norway, Ireland, Switzerland, Hongkong, and Iceland.

3. India‘s Economic Diplomacy Website is Live now

Now the economic strength of the country divided state and sector-wise will be live on the economic diplomacy website. This website was launched on 16 December 2020 by  S Jaishankar, the external affairs minister. 

4. India ranks 111th in Human Freedom Index 2020

Human Freedom Index 2020 focused on personal, economic, and political freedom in the countries. India is in the 111th position out of 162 countries. The first three countries in the index were New Zealand, Switzerland, and Hong Kong.

Science and Technology

1. DakPay by India Post Payments Bank 

The IPPB launched its own digital payment platform called DakPay. The launch was by the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad. This application is an initiative by IPPB and the Department of Posts.

2. The second country to flag its national flag on Moon is China

The US is the first country to achieve this and now China followed its footsteps to put its national flag on Moon. The US completed this in 1969 while China’s Chang – e5 did it this month while carrying back lunar samples for the country.

3. Inauguration of World’s Largest Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat

PM Modi inaugurated the park on 17 Dec 2020 in the Kutch district of Gujarat. The park is expected to generate 450 GW (4,50,000 MW) of power by 2030 being only one of its kind in the world. The foundation stone is laid down for its construction. 

Awards and Prizes

1. Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians 2020

Dr. Carolina Arajuo from Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics based in Rio De Janerio won the Ramanujan Prize for Mathematicians 2020. She became the first nonindian woman to receive the prize for her contribution to the field.

2. The Global Visionary of Sustainable Business and Peace Award

Ratan Tata received the award for the global vision of the sustainable business and peace 2020. The ceremony took place in Dubai with the launch of the Indo-Israel Chambers of Commerce on December 21.

3. The Communication Satellite by the Indian Space Agency 

ISRO successfully launched the Communications Satellite CMS-01 from PSLV-C50 on 17 Dec 2020. This is the 42nd Communication Satellite to support the extended C Band. This will not only cover the Indian mainland but the small islands around it as well.
