1. The Union Budget 2021-22 

The union budget is expected to come out on 1 Feburay 2021 as the finance minister Nirmala Sthraman announced it. The session for the same is dated to begin on 29 January and will go on till 15 February.

The Ministry of Health expected to get the largest share owing to the current situation. 

2. Kisan Kalyan Mission in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Kissan Kalyan Mission amid the farmer protest going on in India.

This mission aims to increase farmer’s income by two times and will run for 3 weeks in 75 districts of the state.

The mission is also to calm the angry farmers in the state over Farmer’s bill 2020. 

3. 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 

PM Modi inaugurated the event virtually on 9 January 2021. The Ministry of External Affairs is in charge of this annual event and aims to engage and build a connection with overseas citizens.

The theme of the 2021 event was “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.

The event also pays respect to Gandhiji as he was an NRI too.

1. IMD on Climate of India 2020

The year 2020 was the 8th warmest on record since 1901according to IMD.

Last fifteen years saw 12 of the 15 warmest years of the country, as the research proved.

According to the reports, India was +0.290 degrees Celsius above normal in 2020.

Economy and Infrastructure 

1. World’s Largest Solar Energy Project in India

The Madhya Pradesh government confirmed the construction of the world’s largest solar power project on the Narmada River.

The project will generate 600 MW and the investment is around Rs. 3,000 crores.

The loan for the project is mostly from international organizations like World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and Power Grid. 

2. World Food Price Index

The food and agriculture organization of the UN noticed a rise in World Food Index in December 2020 for the 7th month in a row.

The average change for the basket food internationally was 107.5 points in December compared to 105.2 points in November. 

International Relations

1. India will be co-head of APAP for 3 years

The Asia Protected Areas Partnership will be co-chaired by India for the next three years starting from 2021.

South Korea was in the same position before India took over. The increase in the population of wild animals in the country is the reason behind this development. 

2. Joe Biden will be the President: US Congress

The US congress confirmed Joe Biden as the President of the United States of America amid the protest going on in the country. Biden won the majority with 270 Electoral Votes as the electoral college count resumed.

The protest to support Donald Trump disturbed the counting of the votes in the country.

This also led to the social media giant Twitter to block Donald Trump’s account permanently. 

3. India and France’s annual Strategic Dialogue

The yearly meet of India and France will take place this month as delegates from France will visit the country.

Ajit Doval will represent India in this dialogue and the discussion will be mainly around bilateral and global issues.

1. National Metrology Conclave 

The theme for the 2021 event was “Metrology for the Inclusive Growth of the Nation”.

The event took place on 4 January 2021 as PM Modi inaugurated it.

The day is important as PM also dedicated National Atomic Timescale and Bhartiya Nirdeshak Dravya to India. 

2. Discovery of Woolly Rhino in Siberia

The wooly rhino comes from the ice age and scientists in Siberia recently discovered a well-preserved specimen of the species.

The news broke out as Rissian Media took over the internet talking about one of the best-preserved specimens found. 

3. World’s first Wooden Satellites

Japan will become the first country to start developing wooden satellites as A Japanese company and Kyoto university joined hands.

The satellite is expected to develop by 20023 with the sole purpose of controlling space junk.

Different types of wood will be tried out before the final model comes out. 

4. Environment-Friendly Fuel for Satellites

The chairman of ISRO, K Sivan made it official to go green and reduce carbon footprint in space.

The organization is now on a mission to find a replacement for hazardous space fuel with an eco-friendly option.

The decision comes after increasing global warming and the temperature of the earth.

1. Elon Musk – the world’s richest person

The Amazon King of the World, Jeff Bezos lost the position of the world’s richest person this year.

Elon Musk is now on the top of the list according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The net worth of Tesla’s CEO is USD 188.5 billion as of January 2021.
