1. Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme for CAPF

The Central Armed Police Force can now avail the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme.

Amit Shah, the union home minister made the official announcement on 23 January 2021.

It was also the 125th birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The scheme is expected to reach 10 lakh + CAPF personnel. 

2. The Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card

25th January was the National Voters Day and India woke up to the introduction of Digital Voters card.

The Election Commission of India named it as Electronic – Electoral Photo Identity Card. It cannot be edited and will be available in pdf format. The advice is to save it in places like Digilocker.

1. People’s Climate Vote

The United Nations Development Programme did a largest climate change survey this month.

66% of the people called climate change an emergency according to the reports. Around 1.2 million people across 50 countries were part of this climate survey.

The results are alarming and are expected to create a buzz at the UN.

The Union Budget sessions have now begun in the country. The entire budget is expected to be presented on 1 February 2021.

President Ram Nath Kovind opened the session highlighting the importance of efficient financial management in 2021 during covid. 

2. Economic Survey 2020-21

The finance minister of the country, Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey 2020-2021 on Thursday.

The Indian GDP is expected to fall by 7% in 2021 due to the corona pandemic.

The Chief Economic Adviser then moved ahead with industry wise details related to the economy

3. India’s FDI inflows Grows

The Union Ministry of Commerce released a data that shows India’s increasing foreign direct investment by 81% during November 2020.

The credit for the achievement goes to the government’s role in improving FDI policy reforms and regulations. 

4. India’s Scientific Publications

The annual average growth rate of publications in India increased by 10.7% in the last 12 years.

Though India comes at the third place in scientific publication, its growth rate is higher than China and the US who are on top of the list respectively. 

5. India Justice Report

The annual Indian justice report came out on 28 January 2020 with alarming results.

The less number of high court judges, low prisoner convictions and many pending cases are just a few of the concerning issues.

Maharashtra rose as the best performing state when it came to justice.

1. China becomes leading FDI destination 

The covid costed many countries their economy and development but incase of China it was different.

It controlled the spread of the virus at the right time and has now become the leading foreign direct investment destination of the world. This position was held by the US before. 

2. WEF Davos Dialogue

The World Economic Forum’s Davos Dialogues took place on 28 January 2021. The forum took place online as PM Modi addressed it.

It saw as many as 400 leaders of different industries and the PM mostly spoke about India’s progress around covid vaccines. 

3. Beating Retreat 2021 Ceremony

The Bangladeshi Liberal War of 1971 was won by India beating Pakistan. The beating retreat ceremony was held on 29 January 2021 to mark 50 years of the victory.

The Indian triumph was celebrated by playing Swarnim Vijay as the republic day festivities were ended. 

Science and Technology

1. Airtel to run 5G network in India

Bharti Airtel becomes the first telecom operator in the country to successfully run the 5G services.

The network is limited to only Hyderabad city as of now but it will soon expand to pan India. The 5G network holds 1,800 MHz band as Airtel gave a demo in the city.

2. The Lost Galaxy

NASA captured an image of ‘Lost Galaxy’ in the Virgo constellation. It is under Earth’s 75 million light-years.

The agency shared the images as part of their mission to find all spiral galaxies located near earth. The images were shared on their official social media page. 

Awards and Prizes

1. Reliance Jio’s Victory

Reliance Jio became the fifth strongest brand globally right after Coca Cola and Ferrari.

The strength-based list is topped by Chinese Mobile App WeChat with Ferrari in 2nd position. Russian Bank Saber and Coca Cola are in 3rd and 4th position respectively.
