DSP full form is Deputy Superintendent of Police, a police officer grade at the Indian police force. The DSP represents the state police and directs the state police officers. The DSP has a national symbol on the strap of the shoulder, above one star as the rank symbol.
A DSP can be promoted to IPS after a few years of service. If a person wants to directly take the post of DSP they need to sit in the IPS examinations conducted annually. Otherwise, inspectors are also promoted to DSP after the mentioned years of service.
Eligibility criteria for DSP
- The candidate must be an Indian resident.
- The candidates must have graduated in any stream from a recognized board or educational institution.
- The candidate must be between 21 and 30. 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit for SC/ST candidates.
- The least height of male and female candidates must be 168 cms and 155 cms respectively.
- The minimum chest expected for men is 84 cms, with the least expansion of 5 cms.
Process of DSP selection
It is necessary that a person takes part in the State level test carried out by the State Public Service Commission to become a DSP. After passing the exam, they undergo probationary training before being posted as DSP. To become a DSP:
- Pass the preliminary and main written examination.
- Pass the physical efficiency test (PET).
- Pass the medical test and interview.
