Quiz on Fiji
Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is a South Pacific Ocean island nation in Melanesia. It is 1,100 nautical miles north-northeast of New Zealand. Fiji has around 330 islands and 500 islets, with 110 inhabited. Fiji covers 18,300 km2 (7,100 sq mi). Ono-i-Lau is remotest. 924,610 people—87% of the population—live on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. 75% of Fijians live near Viti Levu’s shoreline, mostly in cities like Suva, Nadi and Lautoka. Lautoka is driven by sugarcane, whereas Nadi is by tourism. Viti Levu’s rugged topography explains its limited population. Did you know all this?
Summary:
Most of Fiji’s islands were created through volcanic activity that began approximately 150 million years ago. Geothermal activity persists on Vanua Levu and Taveuni islands.[13] The geothermal systems on Viti Levu are of non-volcanic origin and exhibit low-temperature surface discharges, ranging from approximately 35 to 60 degrees Celsius (95 to 140 °F).
