What is the full form of UIDAI?

UIDAI stands for Unique Identification Authority of India, a government agency that implements the AADHAAR plan and gives a unique identification number to all Indian citizens. This helps erase duplicate and fake identities. It has its headquarter in New Delhi and has 8 regional offices in various cities of India. Its two Data Centers are located in Hebbal, Bengaluru, Karnataka and Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana.

Points to remember about UIDAI

• A constitutional power and government agency created on 12 July 2016, by the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016.
• Created by the Indian Government under administration of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
• Grants all Indian citizens a 12-digit unique identification number named Aadhaar.
• Initially established in January 2009, under the Planning Commission, through a notification in the Indian Gazette, as an attached office by the GoI.
• Has its data center in the Industrial Model Township, Manesar. Around 7,000 servers in Manesar & Bengaluru store the AADHAR data.

Vision of UIDAI

UIDAI is responsible for identifying and authenticating Aadhar. Apart from this it also ensures proper implementation and has control over all stages of the Aadhaar life cycle. This ensures the protection of an individuals’ identity and authentication of his/her documents.

1. Inspire Indian citizens who have access to a digital platform to authenticate anywhere and anytime.
