What is the full form of UF?
UF stands for Ultrafiltration. This is a type of membrane filtration used in UF water purifiers. This method allows the water to pass through a semipermeable membrane threaded with hollow fiber in order to extract solutes & particles from the water.
Application area of UF
A great pretreatment for water treatment as it has the extraordinary properties of removing bacteria and suspended particles. Apart from this following are some more areas of application of UF:
- Chemical sector
- Food sector
- Dairy industry
- Metal industry (oil/water emulsion separation technique)
- Pharmaceutical sector
- Textile sector
Benefits of Ultrafiltration
- Lower energy usage.
- Few Manual Activities are required.
- Cheap to maintain.
- Based on the water source and membrane, it alternates high-quality infuse output.
- It discards viruses, phages, colloids, and macromolecules to a certain extent and performs disinfection by killing the bacteria.
- UF Water Purifiers don’t require energy to function. The UF Water Filters can perform under regular water pressure from the pipes.
Limitations of Ultrafiltration
- Discards bacteria and suspended matter.
- Susceptible to high concentrations of oxidizing chemicals.
- There are chances of damage while attempting to stop sharp and hard particles larger than 0.1 mm.
- Damage can occur if pressure is higher than 3 bar membrane.
