What is the full form of EEG?

EEG stands for Electroencephalogram. It helps evaluate the electrical behaviour of the brain. Neurons interact with one another through electrical impulses. In EEG, a brain wave metric detects and records brain wave patterns of the brain’s electrical impulses.

  • Electrodes, tiny metal discs with a fine wire arrive with the system that performs this test.
  • Electrodes mounted on a scalp pass signals to the computer that tracks the result.
  • For familiar brain activity, it produces a standard/identifiable pattern and for any abnormal brain activity, the pattern is unrecognizable or different.

Working principle of EEG

  • Safe and pain-free procedure.
  • Electrodes mounted on the scalp collect the brain’s electrical activity from neurons and transfers it to a system that displays it as a series of lines registered/shown on a monitor.
  • Electrodes are taken off by the technician after getting results.
  • A neurologist studies your brain wave sequence recordings.

Why take an EEG test?

This Test is useful for:

  • Diagnosing and tracking seizure diseases.
  • Detecting sleep disorders & epilepsy.
  • Detecting behavioral changes issues.
  • Determining brain activity after a major head injury or before a liver or heart transplant.
