What is the full form of SHO?

SHO stands for Station House Officer, head of the locality police station who is responsible for supervising the activities within the station and maintaining law and order in his locality. His rank is above the SI (Sub Inspector) and below the DSP (Deputy Police Superintendent) which can be distinguished through the three-star emblem on his shoulder strap and a blue-red striped ribbon.

Duties of SHO

  1. Perform criminal investigations in India and attend court hearings to represent the police station.
  2. Supervising the activities within the station and maintaining law and order in his area.
  3. The central or state government administers SI Exams and allocates the eligible candidates to vacant Sub Inspector posts.
