What is the full form of BHEL?
BHEL stands for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. It is a New Delhi-based manufacturing and engineering organization. Established in 1964, BHEL is under the control of the Indian government and is India’s oldest and largest power plant product producer.
BHEL engineers, manufactures, constructs, services, and evaluates various products from various sectors like railways, energy, water, oil and gas, defence and transmission, and power plant services.
A brief history of BHEL
- Established in 1964 in the Indigenous Heavy Equipment Industry in India.
- Heavy Electricals Limited merged with BHEL in 1974. Further, in 1991 it became a limited public enterprise.
- It manufactures products for various industries like transmission, transportation, oil and gas, and other sectors.
- The majority of income comes from the manufacturing of power plant products like boilers, generators, etc.
- As of 2017, about 55 per cent of India’s total electricity generation was done using BHEL provided appliances.
- BHEL has manufactured thousands of electric locomotives and defense equipment like the Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM), naval guns, and Defense Simulators.
