IC full form is Integrated Circuit. Multiple elements are interconnected on a thin sheet of semiconductors to form an IC that is a small-sized electronic device. These multiple elements are assembled as a single entity (usually silicone) and include microscopic elements like Diodes, Transistors, Resistors, and Capacitors.
We use ICs in Television sets, microprocessors, automobiles, audio & video equipment, and mobile devices usually in the form of a microchip.
Types of Integrated circuits
In 1958, Jack Kilby built the first IC (microchip). Since then this technology has undergone many developments, and various types of IC have also emerged. Following is the list of types of IC:
1. SSI (Small Scale Integration): up to 100 transistors for a single IC or cube.
2. MSI (Medium Scale Integration): more than 1000 and upto several hundred thousand transistors for a single IC or cube.
3. VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration): more than 100 thousand and upto 1 million transistors for a single IC or cube.
4. ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration): millions or billions transistors for every chip.
There are other classifications of IC too like Analog IC, Digital IC, or a blend of both.
Benefits of IC
- Small-sized.
- Lightweight.
- Highly dependable.
- Low energy consumption.
- Easily replaceable.
- Minor temperature variations.
- Suitable for minimal signal operation.
Limitations of IC
- Can handle a limited amount of electricity.
- Hard to repair.
- P-N-P High-Grade chamber is impossible.
- Obtaining low-temperature coefficients effectively is strenuous.
- The limit of potency dissipation is 10 watts.
- Low noise and high voltage operation are difficult to attain.
