RTI full form is Right to Information. On 15 June 2005, the Indian Parliament adopted the RTI Act, 2005, which then entered into force on 12 October 2005. It gives the public the right to information and safeguards access to data under the management of the public authority. This makes the functioning of public authorities accountable and transparent.

Under the RTI Act, an Indian citizen has the right to inspect government work. This inspection is done by asking them to provide copies of government documents related to that work.

Beginning of RTI

On 15 June 2005, the Legislation of Parliament of India made the RTI Act. It came into effect on 12 October 2005. Since then it has become one of the most powerful laws of India and is responsible for providing information to the citizens of India.

Scope of RTI

Before the revocation of Article 370, the RTI Act was applicable in all the states and union territories except Jammu and Kashmir. But after its revocation, the state of Jammu and Kashmir became the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh. Both these union territories now come under the Central Act, thus the RTI Act applies to these two too.

The scope of this act also includes all the constitutional authorities of India, including executives, legislatures, and judiciaries; any organization or body founded or constituted by an act of state legislature or Parliament.
