What is the full form of ISI?
The first full form of ISI is the Indian Standards Institute, which is responsible for establishing standards for the orderly growth of the industries and the maintenance of industrial output. It offers an ISI mark i.e, a goods certification mark recognized throughout the Indian sub-continent.
History Of ISI
- Founded on January 6, 1947.
- Dr. Lal C. Verman became its first Director in June 1947.
- The Bureau of Indian Standards is now known as ISI and sets the standard of quality for products. It gives a certification mark to a product after verifying its quality and standard.
- By 1986 legislation, BIS can provide certification to products.
- Without an ISI mark, sellers cannot sell their goods in India.

1. Doesn’t have the seven-digit license number.
2. At the top of ISI, the label has an IS number denoting the number of Indian standards for a specific product.The second full form of ISI is Indian Statistical Institute, a private college that has its branches in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Tezpur. Established in Kolkata on December 17, 1931, by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis, ISI gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by Parliament’s act of 1959.
