India’s military is among the largest and the most powerful in the world. Defence is a major part of a nation. More than half of the Indian Budget is allotted for the defence. In terms of its military, it is the 4th strongest country in the world.

List of Exercises by Indian Army

Dharma Guardian I – This exercise is held between India and Japan, This exercise aims for developing a mutual understanding between two armies.

MILEX – This is held in BIMSTEC. It aims to counter-terrorism in rural and semi-urban areas. It aims to promote a strategy to fight terrorism.

SCO Peace Mission – This is held in India and SCO. This aims to train in Jungle warfare, disaster-response activities, and combating terrorism.

Surya Kiran XIII – This is held between India and Nepal. This aims to train in Jungle warfare, disaster-response activities, and combating terrorism.

Maitree – It is held between Thailand and India. This exercise also aims at providing skills in jungle warfare.

LAMITYE VIII – This is held between Seychelles and India. This aims to conduct counter-terrorism operations and counter-insurgency.

Shakti IV – This is held between India and France. This joint training highly focuses on tactical drills, physical fitness, procedures, and techniques.

Ekuverin VIII – This is held between Maldives and India. This focuses on the operating procedure of counter-terrorism and insurgency.

Hamesha Vijayee – It is done in Southern Command. This aims to fine-tune the surveillance and various destructive mechanisms in order to support the strikes and maneuvers enabling force.

Danx – It is done in 50 parachute brigades. The primary objective is to exercise and validate drills and procedures of the commanding forces thereby defending the islands. It is performed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

IMBAX I – This is performed between Myanmar and India. This aims in assisting strong bonds of friendship.

Ajeya Warrior – This is performed between the UK and India. The aim is to promote and build bilateral relationships between them.

Prabal Dostyk – This is performed between Kyrgyzstan and the Indian Army. This aims to enhance military relations between the two nations.

Mitra Shakti – It is performed between Sri Lanka and India. It is based on the infantry of both countries based on counter-terrorism.

Indra – This is performed between the Russian and the Indian Armed Forces. This is the first-ever triservice between these two nations.

Sampriti VII – This is performed between Bangladesh and India. This aims to enhance the interoperability between the two nations. It also helps in combatting terrorism and insurgencies.

Konkan – This is performed between India and the UK. The Indian Navy with an INS joins the UK’s Navy for this exercise. This exercise is a long-running exercise designed to test the ability of the navies to operate side-by-side during the war and other crunches.

Agni Warrior – This is performed between India and Singapore. This is an Artillery- live-firing exercise conducted in Devlali Field Firing Range from November end to the start of December.

It is a 3-day program. Singapore Armed Forces use 155mm Singapore Light Weight Howitzer Pegasus which is the world’s first propelled heliborne howitzer.

Naseem-al-Bahr – This exercise is performed between India and Oman. This has been performed since 1993. This is a bilateral Naval Exercise. The significance of this exercise is that Oman is at the gateway of Strait of Hormuz through which India imports one-fifth of its oil-imports.

Oman is one of India’s oldest defence partners and allies in anti-piracy campaigns in the Gulf of Aden.

Mitra Shakti – This is performed between Sri Lanka and India. This exercise aims to build and promote positive relations between these two nations for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism programs.

This also aims for incorporating the current dynamics of United Nations peacekeeping operations through comprehensive and tactical exercises.
