What is Backup Node and how it works in Hadoop?
-
Backup node was a feature introduced in Hadoop in 2009. A need was felt to extend the functionality of secondary name node to be up-to-date (w.r.t Name node) and always act as a warm stand-by for the Name node. Hence the need for introduction of backup node.
Just as name node, the backup node, it contains up-to date information on namespace and stored both in memory and local disks.
