National Highways of India<\/h2>\n

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), set up in 1988 under the Act Parliament, is responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of highways in India.<\/p>\n

NH – 44<\/strong>, which runs through the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu is the longest National Highway in India.<\/p>\n

It stretches for approximately 3745 km. NH 44 was previously known as NH 7.<\/p>\n

The National Highways of India have a systematic numbering scheme that is based on the geographic orientation and location of the highway. This method was adopted to ensure the flexibility and consistency of the highways.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. For all National Highways which run from North to South, even numbers are assigned from east West in ascending order. Example is NH- 2 is located in the North-Eastern states.<\/li>\n
  2. For all National Highways which run from East to West odd numbers are assigned and are named in ascending order from East to West. For example – 87 is located in Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n
  3. Highways which are denoted by 3 numbers are the branches of the National Highway. For example – NH 144,244 is the subsidiary routes of the national highway 44.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
