Platform<\/h3>\n<h4>a. Platform Requirements<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Operating system:<\/strong> Ubuntu 14.04 or later, we can also use other Linux flavors like CentOS, Redhat, etc.<br \/>\nIn this Apache Flink Installation on ubuntu tutorial, we will install Apache\u00a0Flink 1.x<\/p>\n<h4>b. Configure &amp; Setup Platform<\/h4>\n<p>If you are using Windows\/Mac OS you can create virtual machine and install Ubuntu using VMWare Player,\u00a0alternatively, you can create virtual machine and install Ubuntu using Oracle Virtual Box<\/p>\n<h3>ii. Install Java<\/h3>\n<p>Apache Flink requires Java to be installed as it runs on JVM. So, let\u2019s begin by installing Java.<\/p>\n<h4>a. Install Python Software Properties<\/h4>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">$ sudo apt-get install python-software-properties<\/pre>\n<h4>b. Add Repository<\/h4>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team\/java<\/pre>\n<h4>c. Update the source list<\/h4>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">$ sudo apt-get update<\/pre>\n<h4>d. Install Java<\/h4>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer<\/pre>\n<p>On executing above command Java will be automatically downloaded and installed.<\/p>\n<h4>e. Verify\u00a0Java Installation<\/h4>\n<p>To check whether installation procedure gets successfully completed or not and to know the version of Java installed we can\u00a0use the below command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">$ java -version<\/pre>\n<h3>iii. Install Apache Flink<\/h3>\n<h4>a. Download the Apache\u00a0Flink<\/h4>\n<p>You can download Flink from official Apache website, use this link to download Apache Flink <a href=\"http:\/\/flink.apache.org\/downloads.html\">Click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>b. Untar the setup file<\/h4>\n<p>Move\u00a0the downloaded setup file in home directory and\u00a0run below command to extract Flink:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">dataflair@ubuntu:~$ tar xzf flink-1.1.3-bin-hadoop26-scala_2.11.tgz<\/pre>\n<h4>c. Rename the installation Directory<\/h4>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">dataflair@ubuntu:~$ mv flink-1.1.3\/ flink<\/pre>\n<h4>d. Change the working directory to Flink Home<\/h4>\n<p>To start Flink services, run sample program and play with it,\u00a0change the directory to flink by using below\u00a0command<\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">dataflair@ubuntu:~$ cd flink<\/pre>\n<h4>e. Start Flink<\/h4>\n<p>Start Apache Flink in a local mode use this command<br \/>\n[php]dataflair@ubuntu:~\/flink$ bin\/start-local.sh [\/php]<\/p>\n<h4>f. Check status<\/h4>\n<p>Check the status of running services<\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\">dataflair@ubuntu:~\/flink$ jps<\/pre>\n<pre>Output should\u00a0be\n6740 Jps\n6725 JobManager<\/pre>\n<h4>g. Apache Flink Web UI<\/h4>\n<p>To start Web UI\u00a0use the following URL<\/p>\n<p><strong>localhost:8081<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>iv.
