Let us first understand the recommended platform for installing Hadoop on the multi-node cluster in Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<h3>2.1. Recommended Platform for Hadoop 2.6 Multi Node Cluster Setup<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>OS: <a href=\"http:\/\/data-flair.training\/blogs\/frequent-linux-commands-beginners-tutorial\/\">Linux<\/a><\/strong> is supported as a development and production platform. You can use Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04 or later (you can also use other Linux flavors like CentOS, Redhat, etc.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hadoop:<\/strong> Cloudera Distribution for Apache Hadoop CDH5.x (you can use Apache Hadoop 2.x)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2.2. Install Hadoop on Master<\/h3>\n<p>Let us now start with installing Hadoop on master node in the distributed mode.<\/p>\n<h4>I. Prerequisites for Hadoop 2.6 Multi Node Cluster Setup<\/h4>\n<p>Let us now start with learning the prerequisites to install Hadoop:<br \/>\n<strong>a. Add Entries in hosts file<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit hosts file and add entries of master and slaves:<br \/>\n[php]sudo nano \/etc\/hosts<br \/>\nMASTER-IP\u00a0master<br \/>\nSLAVE01-IP\u00a0slave01<br \/>\nSLAVE02-IP\u00a0slave02[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>(NOTE: In place of MASTER-IP, SLAVE01-IP, SLAVE02-IP put the value of the corresponding IP)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>b. Configure SSH<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Install Open SSH Server-Client<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[php]sudo apt-get install openssh-server openssh-client[\/php]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Generate Key Pairs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[php]ssh-keygen -t rsa -P &#8220;&#8221;[\/php]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Configure passwordless SSH<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Copy the content of .ssh\/id_rsa.pub (of master) to .ssh\/authorized_keys (of all the slaves as well as master)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif\">Check by SSH to <\/strong><strong style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif\">all the Slaves<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[php]ssh slave01<br \/>\nssh slave02[\/php]<\/p>\n<h4>II. Install Apache Hadoop in distributed mode<\/h4>\n<p>Let us now learn how to download and install Hadoop?<br \/>\n<strong>a. Download Hadoop<\/strong><br \/>\nBelow is the link to download Hadoop 2.x.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.cloudera.com\/cdh5\/cdh\/5\/hadoop-2.5.0-cdh5.3.2.tar.gz\">http:\/\/archive.cloudera.com\/cdh5\/cdh\/5\/hadoop-2.5.0-cdh5.3.2.tar.gz<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>b. Untar Tarball<\/strong><br \/>\n[php]tar xzf hadoop-2.5.0-cdh5.3.2.tar.gz[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>(Note: All the required jars, scripts, configuration files, etc. are available in HADOOP_HOME directory (hadoop-2.5.0-cdh5.3.2))<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>III. Hadoop multi-node cluster setup Configuration<\/h4>\n<p>Let us now learn how to setup Hadoop configuration while installing Hadoop?<br \/>\n<strong>a. Edit .bashrc<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit .bashrc file located in user\u2019s home directory and add following environment variables:<br \/>\n[php]export HADOOP_PREFIX=&#8221;\/home\/ubuntu\/hadoop-2.5.0-cdh5.3.2&#8243;<br \/>\nexport PATH=$PATH:$HADOOP_PREFIX\/bin<br \/>\nexport PATH=$PATH:$HADOOP_PREFIX\/sbin<br \/>\nexport HADOOP_MAPRED_HOME=${HADOOP_PREFIX}<br \/>\nexport HADOOP_COMMON_HOME=${HADOOP_PREFIX}<br \/>\nexport HADOOP_HDFS_HOME=${HADOOP_PREFIX}<br \/>\nexport YARN_HOME=${HADOOP_PREFIX}[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>(Note: After above step restart the Terminal\/Putty so that all the environment variables will come into effect)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>b. Check environment variables<\/strong><br \/>\nCheck whether the environment variables added in the .bashrc file are available:<br \/>\n[php]bash<br \/>\nhdfs[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>(It should not give error: command not found)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>c. Edit hadoop-env.sh<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit configuration file hadoop-env.sh (located in HADOOP_HOME\/etc\/hadoop) and set JAVA_HOME:<br \/>\n[php]export JAVA_HOME=&lt;path-to-the-root-of-your-Java-installation&gt; (eg: \/usr\/lib\/jvm\/java-8-oracle\/)[\/php]<br \/>\n<strong>d. Edit core-site.xml<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit configuration file core-site.xml (located in HADOOP_HOME\/etc\/hadoop) and add following entries:<br \/>\n[php]&lt;configuration&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;name&gt;fs.defaultFS&lt;\/name&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;value&gt;hdfs:\/\/master:9000&lt;\/value&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;name&gt;hadoop.tmp.dir&lt;\/name&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;value&gt;\/home\/ubuntu\/hdata&lt;\/value&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/configuration&gt;[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>Note: \/home\/ubuntu\/hdata is a sample location; please specify a location where you have Read Write privileges<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>e. Edit hdfs-site.xml<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit configuration file hdfs-site.xml (located in HADOOP_HOME\/etc\/hadoop) and add following entries:<br \/>\n[php]&lt;configuration&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;name&gt;dfs.replication&lt;\/name&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;value&gt;2&lt;\/value&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/configuration&gt;[\/php]<br \/>\n<strong>f. Edit mapred-site.xml<\/strong><br \/>\nEdit configuration file mapred-site.xml (located in HADOOP_HOME\/etc\/hadoop) and add following entries:<br \/>\n[php]&lt;configuration&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;name&gt;mapreduce.framework.name&lt;\/name&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;value&gt;yarn&lt;\/value&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/property&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/configuration&gt;[\/php]<br \/>\n<strong>g. Copy the configured tarball on all the slaves<\/strong><br \/>\n[php]scp hadoop.tar.gz slave01:~[\/php]<br \/>\n(NOTE: Run this command on Master)<br \/>\n[php]scp hadoop.tar.gz slave02:~[\/php]<br \/>\n<em>(NOTE: Run this command on Master)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>c. Un-tar configured Hadoop setup on all the slaves<\/strong><br \/>\n[php]tar xzf hadoop.tar.gz[\/php]<br \/>\n(NOTE: Run this command on all the slaves)<br \/>\n\u201cHadoop is set up on all the Slaves. Now Start the Cluster\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>2.4. Start the Hadoop Cluster<\/h3>\n<p>Let us now learn how to start Hadoop cluster?<\/p>\n<h4>I. Check daemons on Master<\/strong><br \/>\n[php]jps&lt;\/pre&gt;<br \/>\nNameNode<br \/>\nResourceManager[\/php]<br \/>\n<strong>b. Check daemons on Slaves<\/strong><br \/>\n[php]jps&lt;\/pre&gt;<br \/>\nDataNode<br \/>\nNodeManager[\/php]<\/p>\n<h3>2.5. Stop The Hadoop Cluster<\/h3>\n<p>Let us now see how to stop the Hadoop cluster?<\/p>\n<h4>I.
