What is Amazon Elastic Block Store?<\/h2>\n

The current generations of Amazon EBS offer four different types of volumes each with different characteristics which help to grow the business rapidly.<\/p>\n

AWS EBS provides two types of volumes that are SSD-Backed delivering low-latency with highest IOPS and HDD-Backed for streaming sequential access for highest throughput.<\/p>\n

SSD<\/strong> is best for the boot volumes and transactional workload which require low latency and high IOPS. Enterprises Applications, Relational Databases, and NoSQL Databases can all support the power of SSD-Backend.<\/p>\n

HDD<\/strong> is best compatible for streaming IO and the highest throughput. Applications such as Big data <\/strong>Applications, Data Warehousing Applications, and Staging Applications will provide the cost one desires with the performance one needs.<\/p>\n

What is Amazon Elastic Block Store?<\/p><\/div>\n

In all cases, one can choose the volume type one needs. The User can connect different volume types to the EC2 instance. It is also compatible with the applications having different performance profiles.<\/p>\n

The EBS provides maximum data protection as the failure rate is between 0.1 to 0.2%. The user can still take precautions by taking point-in-time snapshots for efficient backup, Archiving, and recovery for procuring new EC2 instances.<\/p>\n

AWS Elastic Block Store provides features in various manners such as security, reliability, availability and many more which is further elaborated.<\/p>\n

a. High-Performance Database<\/h3>\n

Amazon Es creates a storage volume and attaches them to the Amazon EC2. After the attachment, the user can create the file system to run a database. AWS EC2 introduces the variety of databases as per the need of the user to maintain the cost and requirement of the user.<\/p>\n

For the security purpose, these are placed in the special availability zone so to protect the data from the failure of the single component.<\/p>\n

b. Encryption<\/h3>\n

To remove the need to build and manage a secure key infrastructure AWS EBS encryption offers encryption of EBS data volumes, boot volumes, and snapshots.<\/strong> The encryption occurs on the servers that host EC2 instances.<\/p>\n

This providing encryption of data as it moves between EC2 instances and EBS. For the security reasons, Amazon EC2 is integrated with AWS Identity and Access Management which enables access control to the Amazon EBS volumes.<\/p>\n

c. Managing Access<\/h3>\n

Amazon-managed key and the keys created by the user to provide the security to the data EBS encryption enables data at rest security by encrypting your data volumes, boot volumes, and snapshots.<\/p>\n

Access management is done with the help of IAM which\u00a0is a feature of the AWS account<\/strong> offered at no additional charge. The user will charge only for use of other AWS services by your users.<\/p>\n

d. Snapshots<\/h3>\n

For the long-term durability, AWS EBS offers point-in-time snapshots of EBS volumes. They are backed up to the Amazon S3<\/strong>. In Amazon EBS only the blocks that change after the last snapshot save. The user bill only for the charged block.<\/p>\n
