Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ history | grep cd<\/pre>\n<p>This command shows the commands from history which have word cd<\/p>\n<p><strong>d. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ history | tail&lt;or head&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>This command shows last or first 10 commands in history<\/p>\n<p><strong>e. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ mkdir \/directory-name # permission denied\r\n$ sudo mkdir \/directory-name # permission granted\r\n$ sudo rmdir \/directory-name # permission granted<\/pre>\n<p>sudo is a user which acts like a root, eg if u want to create any directory in root so you will be denied. But if you use sudo command, you will be asked for a password to create a directory in root. You can also get the permission to remove the directory<\/p>\n<h3>2.5. su<\/h3>\n<p><strong>a. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ su &lt;username&gt;<\/pre>\n<p>This command switches the user in the terminal for e.g to change to the user &lt;username&gt;<\/p>\n<h3>2.6. wc<\/h3>\n<p><strong>a. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ cat file.txt | wc \u2013l<\/pre>\n<p>This command returns the number of lines in the file<\/p>\n<p><strong>b. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ cat file.txt | wc -w<\/pre>\n<p>This command returns the number of words in the file<\/p>\n<p><strong>c. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ cat file.txt | wc -c<\/pre>\n<p>This command returns the number of characters in the file<\/p>\n<h3>2.7. sort<\/h3>\n<p><strong>a. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ sort filr.txt<\/pre>\n<p>This command sorts the file column-wise, it first sorts the first column and the corresponding value of other columns will be also the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>b. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ sort -n file.txt<\/pre>\n<p>This command is used for numeric sort<\/p>\n<p><strong>c. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ sort -r file.txt<\/pre>\n<p>This command is used for reverse sort<\/p>\n<p><strong>d. Usage:<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"null\">$ sort -kn,m file.txt<\/pre>\n<p>eg:- $ sort -k2,2n file.txt<\/p>\n<p>This command sorts file by column range; n is starting range, m is ending range and second n stands for numeric sort<\/p>\n<p><strong>e.
