Well apart from advantages, it also attains some limitations. So, in this article, Pros, and Cons of Impala, we will discuss all Pros and Cons of Impala. However, before that, we will discuss Introduction of Impala to understand it well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Introducing Apache Impala<\/span><\/h2>\n

Basically, Impala is the highest performing SQL engine. Also, the fastest way to access data that is stored in Hadoop Distributed File System.<\/span>\u00a0It offers a familiar and unified platform for real-time or batch-oriented queries.<\/p>\n

Also, very important to note that Impala graduated from the Apache Incubator on November 15, 2017.\u00a0Well, the documentation formerly referred to \u201cCloudera Impala\u201d. However, the official name is \u201cApache Impala\u201d now.<\/span><\/p>\n

a. Advantages of Impala<\/span><\/h3>\n

There are several advantages of Cloudera Impala. So, here is a list of those advantages.<\/span><\/p>\n

i. Fast Speed<\/strong>
\nBasically, we can process data that is stored in HDFS at lightning-fast speed with traditional SQL knowledge, by using Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n

ii. No need to Move Data<\/strong>
\nHowever, \u00a0while working with Impala, we don’t need data transformation and data movement for data stored on Hadoop<\/strong>. Even if the data processing is carried where the data resides (on Hadoop cluster),<\/span><\/p>\n

iii. Easy Access<\/strong>
\nAlso, we can access the data that is stored in HDFS, HBase<\/strong>, and Amazon s3 without the knowledge of Java (MapReduce<\/strong>\u00a0jobs), by using Imala. That implies we can access them with a basic idea of SQL queries.<\/span><\/p>\n

iv. \u00a0Short Procedure<\/strong>
\nBasically, while we write queries in business tools, the data has to be gone through a complicated extract-transform-load (ETL) cycle. However, this procedure is shortened with Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, with the new techniques, time-consuming stages of loading & reorganizing is resolved. Like, exploratory data analysis & data discovery making the process faster.<\/span>

\nHowever, for large-scale queries typical in data warehouse scenarios, Impala is pioneering the use of the Parquet file format, a columnar storage layout. Basically, \u00a0that is very optimized for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWe can store and manage large amounts of data (petabytes) by using Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhile we compare Impala to another SQL engines, Impala offers high performance and low latency for Hadoop.<\/span><\/p>\n

B. Disa<\/span>dvantages\u00a0<\/span>of Impala<\/span><\/h3>\n

Following are the disadvantages of Impala, let’s discuss them one by one:<\/span><\/p>\n

i. No Support SerDe<\/strong>
\nThere is no support for Serialization and Deserialization in Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n

ii. No custom Binary Files<\/strong>
\nBasically, we cannot read\u00a0custom binary files in Impala. It only read text files.<\/span><\/p>\n

iii. Need to Refresh<\/strong>
\nHowever, we need to refresh the tables always, when we add new records\/ files to the data directory in HDFS.<\/span><\/p>\n

iv. No Support for Triggers<\/strong>
\nAlso, it does not provide any support for triggers.<\/span><\/p>\n

v. No Updation<\/strong>
\nIn Impala, We cannot update or delete individual records.<\/span><\/p>\n

vi. No Transactions<\/strong>
\nAlso, there is no support for transactions in Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n

vii. No Indexing<\/strong>
\nMoreover, there is no support for indexing in Impala.<\/span><\/p>\n
