A police officer can become DIG after being promoted from the SSP rank.<\/p>\n<h3>Functions of DIG<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Has multiple powers to keep the police disciplined in its region and presents reports to the IGP.<\/li>\n<li>Works in cooperation with the DM to handle certain incidents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Procedure to become DIG<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Appear in Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC.<\/li>\n<li>The selected candidates are appointed as IPS officers and undergo relevant training.<\/li>\n<li>After completing training, the candidate is either given the post of ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) or ASP (Assistant Superintendent of Police).<\/li>\n<li>After this applicants go further up the ranks, first SP (Superintendent of Police), then SSP (Senior Police Superintendent), and finally to the post of DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police).
