National Thermal Power Organization Limited, or NTPC Limited, is an Indian statutory corporation. It was involved in the generation of power as well as other related operations. It is a statutory corporation that was established under the Companies Act of 1956 and is governed by the Ministry of Power of the Government of India.<\/p>\n
The company’s headquarters are located in New Delhi. The generation and distribution of power to India’s State Electricity Boards is the fundamental role of NTPC. The organization also does consultation and turnkey project contracts involving engineering, project management, construction management, and power plant operation and management.<\/p>\n
The organization has also dabbled in oil and gas exploration and coal mining. It has a 62,086 MW electric power production capacity, making it India’s largest power corporation. NTPC produces 25 billion units of power per month at the moment. NTPC now operates 55 power plants (24 coal, 7 gas\/liquid fuel combined cycle, 2 hydro, 1 wind, and 11 solar projects). In addition, joint ventures or subsidiaries own 9 coal and 1 gas station.<\/p>\n
It was created in 1975 by the Government of India, which now owns 54.74 percent of its equity shares as of June 30, 2016. “National Thermal Power Corporation Private Limited” was established on November 7, 1975. In 1976, it began building its first thermal power facility in Shaktinagar, Uttar Pradesh (called National Thermal Power Corporation Private Limited Singrauli).<\/p>\n
Its name was changed to “National Thermal Power Corporation Limited” in the same year. It finished synchronizing its first 500 MW unit in Singrauli in 1986. NTPC started up two 500 MW units in 1988, one at Rihand and the other in Ramagundam. It established a consulting section in 1989. Feroze Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Station (with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam) was purchased in 1992.<\/p>\n
It purchased the Talcher Thermal Power Station from the Orissa State Electricity Board in 1995. The Government of India bestowed “Navratna” status upon it in 1997. In the same year, it set a new record by generating 100 billion units of power in a single year. On November 5, 2004, NTPC was listed on the BSE and NSE. It finished the first day of trading at INR 75.55 per share, up from the issue price of INR 62 per share. It was the third largest firm in India in terms of market capitalization on the day of its IPO.<\/p>\n
The corporation has devised a long-term strategy to reach a capacity of 128000 MW by 2032. The company had 23004 MW under construction as on November 30, 2015. NTPC is broadening its capacity mix, with a strong focus on renewables.<\/p>\n
NTPC has 110 MW of solar PV capacity in operation, while 250 MW is under development, and 1260 MW under tender as of November 30, 2015. On July 18, 2015, NTPC declared its first hydropower facility at Koldam, Himachal Pradesh, operational.
