The Indian police force known as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was created on June 15, 1983, as a central force. The Indian Central Armed Police Force is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs. As far as industrial security forces go, it’s the best. It has one hundred and thirty-two battalions with a combined total of roughly 170,000 soldiers. CISF headquarters is at New Delhi, India.<\/p>\n
An Act of the Indian Parliament created it on March 10, 1969, and it had a staff of 2,800 at that time. The CISF was elevated to the status of an Indian military force on June 15, 1983, when another Act of Parliament established it as such. Their current active personnel numbers are 148,371 people.<\/p>\n
In April 2017, the government sanctioned an increase in the authorized force from 145,000 to 180,000 troops. Two of the agency’s tasks include the Delhi Metro and airport security, as well as keeping an eye on major government buildings.<\/p>\n
The CISF is bound to protect around 300 industrial facilities, government infrastructure projects, and other prime locations in India. CISF is a one-of-a-kind paramilitary organization in India that protects seaways, airports, and some of the country’s most important infrastructure. Some reserved battalions of the CISF cooperate with the state police to maintain law and order. In Disaster Management, the CISF has a critical role to play. There is a ‘Fire Wing’ within the CISF that aids in the event of a fire in an industry where the CISF is stationed.<\/p>\n
On March 10, 1969, an act of Parliament established the Industrial Security Board, which had a staff of around 2,800 people and was designed to better safeguard and secure the country’s industrial enterprises. An exception had been made for industries to be protected by the central government if they were a joint venture with the government; however, this restriction has been removed.<\/p>\n
In recent years, the CISF’s responsibilities have expanded, and it is now responsible for safeguarding a broader range of infrastructure, including airports, seaports, metro rail systems, government buildings, heritage monuments (like Taj Mahal and the Red Fort), opium, and alkaloids extraction facilities, nuclear power plants, and space installations.<\/p>\n
VIP security and catastrophe management are other areas of expertise for the company as well. Currently, the CISF is responsible for internal security, elections, anti-Naxal operations, and any other responsibilities delegated by the Indian government.<\/p>\n
Rajnath Singh, the Union Home Minister, presents awards to CISF members in Ghaziabad. The Director-General of the CISF is an Indian Police Service (IPS) official, while the Additional Director-General is an IPS officer. As well as having a Fire Service Wing and being separated into nine sectors (including the airport), the department is also broken up into eight more subdivisions.<\/p>\n
The Airport Sector is headed by an IPS officer with the rank of Assistant Director-General, who is accompanied by an Inspector-General. Each airport has its own Field Formation Unit inside the Airport Sector. A Deputy Inspector-General or Commandant oversees units at big international airports; an Assistant or Deputy Commandant oversees units at smaller airports. The remaining six Sectors are overseen by an Inspector-General and a Deputy Inspector-General.<\/p>\n
Six zones, one for each of the seven geographical sectors, are overseen by their respective Deputy Inspector-Generals. Many Units are divided up throughout the Zones, each with its own Commandant or DIG in charge of them.<\/p>\n
A Deputy Commandant is the leader of a smaller unit or the second-in-command of a larger one.
