While the name, CHC suggests, what a community health centre is in a general sense, there is a lot more to think about. Outside of community-based health organizations, what are CHCs? Who does a health centre serve? What does a health centre entail, and what services are offered? Let&#8217;s take a closer look at CHCs.<\/p>\n<h3>What is a CHC?<\/h3>\n<p>At approximately 1,400 organizations, CHCs provide a wide range of affordable healthcare services to millions of individuals. These facilities make primary care services more accessible by removing barriers such as cost, location, insurance, and language.<\/p>\n<p>They are private, non-profit, patient-governed, community-directed organizations that serve communities who might otherwise face financial, geographic, linguistic, cultural, or other barriers to care. CHCs provide much-needed healthcare access in places where key services are unavailable.<\/p>\n<h3>Who are the people who benefit from community health centres?<\/h3>\n<p>Individuals are served by CHCs regardless of whether or not they are insured. CHCs provide care to many underserved people regardless of their financial status or social background. According to the National Association of Community Health Centres (NACHC), nearly 27 million people have been served. This contains the following;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 330,000 veterans have served in the military.<\/li>\n<li>There are almost 1.3 million homeless patients in the United States.<\/li>\n<li>There are 995,000 migrant farmworkers in the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to NACHC research from 2016, only 17 percent of patients who visit community health clinics have private insurance. Patients on Medicaid account for 49 per cent of the total, with Medicaid patients accounting for the highest percentage. The remaining 23 per cent are uninsured. According to the study, 62 per cent of patients examined at most CHCs belong to racial\/ethnic minority groups.<\/p>\n<p>Also, according to the National Association of Community Health Centres, 70% of patients who receive care at community health centres are at or below the federal poverty threshold (FPL). This emphasizes the significance of CHC care \u2013 delivering primary care services to uninsured, underserved, and low-income individuals is critical for society&#8217;s overall health outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Community healthcare facilities are a good place to start. 44 percent of these organizations are located in rural locations, where physician shortages in particular sectors, such as behavioural health, make access to care more difficult.<\/p>\n<h3>What does it mean to have a community health system?<\/h3>\n<p>Because a community health centre offers so many services, it&#8217;s easy to mistake them for a multi-speciality group. With that said, there are a few characteristics that distinguish them as a CHC. The following are the details:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Governing boards with a patient majority.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Multiple services are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Accepts all patients, regardless of insurance or financial situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Located in locations with inadequate access to healthcare<\/p>\n<p>Community health centres are described as community-driven, non-profit organizations in addition to these features.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A community health centre (Full form of CHC) signifies that a medical institution exists within an individual&#8217;s neighbourhood to treat a variety of disorders just by its name.
